Teacher Training and Development

Silverdale School has a history of supporting teacher recruitment, training and development, establishing:

South Yorkshire Teaching Hub

South Yorkshire Teaching Hub logoDesignated as one of only 87 national Teaching School Hubs, the South Yorkshire Teaching Hub is a centre of excellence for teacher training and development. They support schools and empower teaching professionals by delivering and sign-posting evidence-based professional development to teachers and leaders at every stage of their career. The South Yorkshire Teaching Hub is here from the moment they consider working in education through to leadership and beyond.

They bring together all the teaching expertise from over 318 schools in the region. The South Yorkshire Teaching Hub is proud to serve the local community of Sheffield and Rotherham and work alongside their hub schools and education partners to support recruitment, training, development and retention of teachers within the region's amazing schools.

The South Yorkshire Teaching Hub's remit is to:

  • Deliver the DfE’s ‘golden thread’ of Initial Teacher Training (ITT), Early Career Framework (ECF) and National Professional Qualifications (NPQs).
  • Be the nucleus for the community, ensuring opportunities and initiatives are shared.
  • Shine a spotlight on the amazing practice taking place in the region.
  • Act as a bridge to connect all education colleagues and partners in the region.
  • Share news, research and papers related to education.

Ultimately their work is focused on developing and improving the outcomes of the region's young people and the people who teach them.

Sheffield Teacher Training Alliance

Sheffield Teacher Training Alliance logoSilverdale School established the Sheffield Teacher Training Alliance (STTA), a teacher training partner based in Sheffield providing training for anyone wanting to teach in early years, primary, secondary or special schools.

Working in partnership with both Sheffield universities, STTA provides supportive training, rooted in the very best classroom practice.

STTA has built an alliance of over 60 schools across Sheffield, Derbyshire and beyond. They work collaboratively with partner schools to ensure that trainees are provided with the best training opportunities, practical experience and can provide a range of placements within local schools.

National Modern Languages SCITT

National Modern Languages SCITT logoAs a result of our success in recruiting and training modern languages teachers, we established the only national School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) provider for modern languages: the National Modern Languages SCITT

Being the only national teacher training provider focused solely on modern languages, the National Modern Languages SCITT is uniquely different from other routes into teaching and ensures its trainees are prepared for life in the classroom, whilst being part of a wider language teaching community.

Developed by experienced modern foreign languages teachers, the National Modern Languages SCITT's passion for languages and language learning led to the creation of its unique teacher training programme. It has been developed as a partnership between both the state and independent education sectors.
