Learning from Home
Homework at Silverdale is regular and meaningful. It is a way for students to prepare for up-coming learning and to consolidate new knowledge and skills.
What is the purpose of homework?
- To reinforce and develop the learning that takes place in the classroom.
- To encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own learning and to work independently to meet deadlines.
- To give parents, carers and other adults the opportunity to become more involved in the learning of their children.
At Silverdale, all homework will link to the curriculum in a way that reinforces learning.
Homework will be assigned regularly and assessed by teachers. Students who demonstrate strong effort will be recognised and rewarded, while those who submit incomplete work or fail to hand it in will face consequences in accordance with the school's behaviour procedure (available on the policies page).
In Years 7 to 11, teachers record homework in Google Classroom. This can be viewed as an app on a mobile phone or tablet, or as a webpage on a computer.
Homework club runs after school Monday to Thursday in the library until 4.15pm to support students in completing their homework. Various extracurricular clubs also run throughout the year. Details of extracurricular clubs can be found on our clubs and extracurricular activities page.
