Headteacher's update 12

Dear parents, carers and students,

I hope you and your family are well.

This week we have received guidance about reopening to all students in September and will be touch with you over the coming weeks to share our plans.

Remote learning: live session timetable for next week

The live sessions for remote learning are running well. Please ensure that your child checks next week’s timetable for these, as there are some changes. We will publish a new timetable every Friday for the following week. You can view these at:

Year 6 and sixth form transition

Next week we will be publishing several videos and supporting information for students in Years 6 and 11 who will be joining our school in September. I am sorry we have not been able to provide our usual transition programme but I hope this information will help plug the gap. We are of course making plans to incorporate much of our usual transition work into the start of term, so that everyone is supported as they move up to the next stage of their education.

Free School Meal Vouchers Update

You may have seen the recent in the media that, for students qualifying and on roll, the Free School Meal voucher scheme has been extended by the government to continue until the 31st August 2020 to cover the summer holiday period.  We are using the national scheme and intend to issue vouchers for the whole summer period in the last week of term.  We apologise if this contradicts any previous information given - the national stance and situation has changed and we are responding accordingly.

Please note that those students in Years 11 and 13 who have an official leaving date of 30th June, will continue to receive the Free School Meal vouchers until the end of the summer holiday. Again, the advice from government changed on this, so we apologise for any confusion.

Refunds for cancelled school trips

We continue to pursue tour operators and insurers for refunds of cancelled trips and will contact parents again as soon as we have an update to provide. If/when we receive refunds we will issue these to parents as soon as we have received them, even if this is over the summer recess.

Returning Text Books and Library Books

Please can all students who are leaving us ensure that all resources, including library books and text books are returned to school in the next two weeks.

In order to ensure the safety of all, we have put arrangements in place so that parents or students can drop them off in designated bins located in one of our bike shelters at the top of the drive. We ask that any parents or students doing so observe social distancing at all times and leave the site as soon as you have dropped off the books you wish to return.

Unwanted Student Uniform

Any parents wishing to donate unwanted student uniform can do so from Monday 6th July until the end of term.  Please place it in the bin provided, this is located in the bike shelter at the top of the school drive.  While on site please observe social distancing at all times and leave the site as soon as you have made your deposit.

Thank you for your continued support.

Best wishes,

Mrs Sarah Sims
