Introduction
PE at Silverdale means 'Outstanding Achievement for All'. Whether this means setting a personal best, learning a new skill or representing the school at national level, PE at Silverdale means fulfilling potential and experiencing the appropriate challenge so all of our students can make high levels of progress. Our students aren’t restricted by their age group. They experience the appropriate level of challenge that is most suited to them and their ability. Practically, this might mean starting with basic, core skills and rules, all the way up to advanced tactical application of more complex techniques.
We are proud of the large numbers of students that go onto choose GCSE and A-level PE and our key stage 4 and key stage 5 provision allows students to achieve fantastic outcomes with 40% of our GCSE PE students achieving a grade 9 over the last 5 years.
The work we do at key stages 3, 4 and 5 is designed to ensure all of our students are prepared to maintain healthy, active lifestyles that support physical, social and mental health during and beyond education. We also give students the opportunity to experience competitive sport and feel proud to wear Silverdale colours in representative teams. These achievements are celebrated in events like our Sports Awards Evening which is always one of the highlights on the Silverdale calendar. We are incredibly ambitious for our students and the PE journey at Silverdale has the power to open the gateway to further education and careers in the world in sport and exercise.

Curriculum
Course content
Students learn core techniques, skills and rules to build the foundations of participation and physical fitness. They are then taught how to apply these in competitive situations so that they can take their participation to the next level. Students will then access the advanced skills, tactics and wider aspects of sport and exercise so that they can enhance their performance before again applying these in competitive situations that require tactical thinking and decision-making in order to outwit opponents. This allows them to participate in and excel in a diverse range of activities. Alongside this, students develop psychologically by building resilience and confidence to support their mental health.
The theoretical side of sport is introduced throughout key stage 3 and if students elect to study GCSE PE, they learn the physiological, psychological and sociological concepts in depth and apply them in examination classes.
