Dear Parents and Carers...
A Message from our Head of School
Urgent Safeguarding Concern
We have received reports of children being approached in the local area (Forge Dam/Highcliffe Road) and offered a lift by two older men in a car. This was as they were making their way home from school. The police have been informed but, if your children make their own way to or from school, it might be a good time to remind them about key measures to keep themselves safe. For example, the importance of not accepting lifts from people that are not known and trusted, always letting people know where they are and planning their journey.
Expansion of Silverdale School
We are delighted to announce that we have, this week, received approval from the Secretary of State for our Silverdale expansion planning permissions. This was the final hurdle in what has been a significant project to enable us to welcome more students to Silverdale, increasing our Year 7 intake from what is currently 180 to 240 from September 2023. It will also enable us to accommodate 30 students with SEN in the Sixth Form.
The project has been planned to minimise the amount of onsite work and potential disruption. Work will start imminently and as much as possible will be completed offsite and during the school holidays. Further details about the project can be found here.
Thank you to everyone who has been involved in the planning of this work - this is great news for Silverdale!
Y6 Open Evening
Parents with children who are currently in Year 6 are welcome to our Open Evening on Thursday 6 October to see all that we have to offer our students.
The evening gives Year 6 students and their parents or carers an opportunity to meet staff and students, see our exciting range of subjects and tour the school.
Please book tickets here.
Cycle to School Week
Next week is National Cycle to School Week. If your child has a bike and is able to cycle to school, we have bike sheds that are locked during the school day. Please ensure your children wear a helmet whilst cycling.
School Clubs and Teaching & Learning Information
A reminder to look out for two emails sent this week:
- School clubs timetable
- Important information about Teaching and Learning systems were sent out last week. If you missed the message, please find the document attached below.
Second Hand Books
Do you have any good quality children’s/young adult’s books suitable for ages 11 to 16 in your house that you would like to donate to school? We are putting together reading boxes for every classroom and would like to have a wide selection of reading materials. Students can bring them to school and drop them off as they arrive via the Student Entrance.
Best wishes,
Sarah Sims
