Headteacher's update 24

Published on 16/11/20

Dear parents and carers,

Extra-curricular Activities

Since my message after half term, the DfE guidance has changed again and extra-curricular activities can now resume.  Further details will be communicated by subject areas.

Online Safety

We are aware that students are likely to be spending more time online at the moment, particularly if they are self-isolating.  If you have concerns about online safety, please refer to this safety guide for parents.

Multi-Faith Space during COVID 19

At Silverdale we wish to support all of our community in practising their individual faiths. During the times of COVID-19 we recognise that acts of worship are ever more important for the emotional and spiritual wellbeing of some of our students. In order to support this, students will have access to an area to allow quiet reflection and prayer. This area will be available at lunchtimes and students will remain in year group bubbles.

These multi-faith areas will be open to all those who wish to use them but specific times have been allocated to each year group to ensure that year group bubbles are separated. Students will be able to be seen while in the multi faith area and we see this as an important way of celebrating the various spiritual backgrounds and cultures that exist in Silverdale. We expect all students to use this space responsibly and respect the other faiths that might be using them at all times.

Some faiths require access to cleansing areas before they pray. The locations of these areas have been chosen to allow these routines to be accommodated in the school toilets.

Vacancies

We are currently recruiting to a number of roles including a part-time art technician, a part-time MIS manager and a senior science technician. Our Teaching School is also recruiting for a communications and marketing co-ordinator. If you know anyone who may be interested, please see our vacancies webpage here.

COVID-19 update

During the week 7th-13th November, we had confirmed positive cases in Y11 (4 students) and Y12 (1 student).  Whilst there is spike in  Y11 cases, there is no evidence of in-school transmission and, in most cases, another member of the same household tested positive first.

Best wishes,

Sarah Sims
