Inspiring stories of GCSE success!
Published on 24/08/17
There were a range of inspriational stories today as students collected their GCSE results, despite the many changes in the exam this past year.
Joint Head of School, Sarah Sims, said:
“Our GCSE results are yet again looking impressive and, although direct comparisons with previous years are difficult to make, the indications are that Silverdale’s results are in line with our previous high outcomes.
“The new GCSEs in English and Maths are significantly more challenging than in past years – with the removal of coursework and more demanding content.
“However, we always have high expectations of our students, whatever the national pressures – and we are delighted that Silverdale students have once again achieved fantastic results.
“Despite being told that the new top grade of a 9 in English and Maths would only be awarded in rare instances, we have 30 of them! And we have 9 students who have achieved 9 to 7 in both English and Maths, and all A or A* grades in their other GCSEs.
“Coming on the back of last week’s A-level results, which saw Silverdale Sixth Form achieve the best results in state schools in the city, we have much to celebrate. Our thanks go to all our staff, students and their families for working together to achieve such incredible success”.
Individual success stories included:
- 494 grades were achieved at A* or its equivalent (8 and 9 grades).
- Student, Ben Tolson (photo attached), was one of only 2,000 students in the country to achieve a 9 in all three of the new, more challenging exams in Maths, English Language and English Literature.
- Two sets of twins (photo attached) at the school achieved a total of 26 A*, 11 A and 5 B grades between them.
- 86% of grades in English were grade 4 (old C grade) or above.
- 80% of grades in Maths were grade 4 (old C grade) or above.
