Silverdale School is delighted to announce that A level results for 2016 are significantly above the National Average. 89% of grades achieved were at A*- C, an increase of 3% on last year and 11% above the National Average. 33% of grades were at A or A *, a figure 7% above the National Average and 18% of students achieved all grades at A* or A, an increase of 3% on last year’s excellent results. The overall pass rate at A*-E was 99.65%, again a figure above the National Average and 64% of grades achieved were at A*-B up by 4% on Silverdale’s results in 2015. In terms of individual performances, 32 students, constituting 15% of the student cohort, gained at least 3 A grades and 52 students, 25% of the cohort, gained at least grades AAB.

Deputy Head teacher, Chas Ponsford commented:

‘These highly impressive statistics bear witness to many, many success stories with students achieving or exceeding their target grades to meet offers for places on a variety of academic and vocational University courses and apprenticeship schemes. In a period of decreased funding for schools and increased pressure on students and teachers, these are results which the school is extremely proud of. They are testimony not only to the impressive academic and vocational ability and hard work of the students but also to the passionate commitment and talent of the teachers and sixth form team, who have supported these admirable young adults throughout their A level journeys. I would also like to pay tribute to the invaluable support offered to their sons and daughters by our parents.

‘Charlotte Collingwood achieved a remarkable four A* grades and an A and will now study Natural Sciences at Cambridge. The majority of students will progress onto Higher Education with many gaining places at prestigious Russell Group universities and three students, Alex Brown, Charlotte Collingwood and Maddie Dyson, gaining places at Cambridge University.

‘Silverdale School is also delighted that the AS results are also significantly higher than the National average, this despite Ofqual’s prediction of a possible downturn in results due to the introduction of revised AS qualifications from 2016.
