A message from our Head of School
Queen Elizabeth
We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. Queen Elizabeth has been a constant in all our lives, and she leaves a legacy that may never be repeated. Her lifetime of service is an inspiration to us all. We offer our sincere condolences to the Royal Family.
Return to School
We have enjoyed welcoming all of our students back to school this week and the changes to our lunch and break times have been a success.
If your child buys school food, please ensure that your child’s ParentPay account is topped up to cover the costs.
Period Products for students
We have free period products in school for all students.
We are looking at ways of getting products into school toilets to make them more easily accessible without students having to ask.
In the meantime, students can go to reception if they need any period products, or see Ms Fella in D002 at the beginning of lunch or after school.
There are also some reusable products for students who are eligible for free school meals or whose families are struggling with the cost of living crisis. Please see Ms Fella for these.
PTA
Are you interested in becoming part of the school’s PTA? The PTA is looking for people to help our regularly and also on one-off event(s) depending on the level of commitment that you can make. Any contribution you are willing to do would be greatly appreciated.
Committee Members come to half-termly meetings, support events and the AGM (Annual General Meeting). These members help to decide the direction that the PTA takes, decide and arrange the type of the fundraising events take place, decides where the money might be spent. Some Committee members take on roles such as Treasurer and Secretary during these meetings.
If you cannot make such a commitment but would like to help out on one-off events like Car Boot Sales, Wreath Making, etc. we would also love to hear from you.
If you would like to state an interest in one of these voluntary roles please complete the form below:

Getting the big “little” things right – Uniform and Punctuality Strategy for this new academic year
Thank you for your support in maintaining and improving our high standards of attendance, punctuality and uniform.
Please see below the following information that has been shared with students.
Punctuality
- School starts at 9am every day, and all students need to be in either their form or assembly by this time promptly every day.
- If a student arrives late into school, a message will be sent home via WEDUC/email to inform yourselves that your child has arrived into school later than 9am.
- All students arriving late to school will perform a 15 minute S1 detention at the start of lunchtime on the same day.
- If your child is going to be late to school for a reason that is out of their control (e.g medical appointment) then please contact school to inform us of this so that we are aware and the student won’t be challenged about this.
Uniform
- Our uniform expectations are can be read here. We want our students to be proud to wear the Silverdale uniform and the over-riding rationale & guidance is that all items of uniform should be professional in appearance and suitable for the workplace.
- Staff will continue to be outside school every morning before school, welcoming the students into the school building and wishing them a good day.
- If any student presents in school wearing incorrect uniform then they will be spoken to by staff outside school, or their form tutor, and they will then be given a 15-minute break time detention on same day.
- If we see persistent issues with a student’s uniform, and we feel that the student is not working with us to correct the issues we are raising, then further scaled sanctions will be issued.
We have given all students a week to get used to school routines, adjust to our new starting time of 9.00am and correct any final issues with items of uniform. The new daily S1 detention system for these issues will come into effect from Monday next week (w/c 12th September 2022) and parents will be notified via WEDUC / email if your child has been included for either of these reasons. We have deliberately protected valuable lesson time by ensuring these sanctions are performed during social times as we feel strongly that learning time should not be impacted during our quest to drive up standards in all aspects of school life.
Thanks for your continued support,
Sarah Sims, Head of School
