National Reading Champions Quiz

Two Silverdale teams in the Regional heat
Last week saw the regional heat of the National Reading Champions Quiz run by the National Literacy Trust, and Silverdale was delighted to enter 2 teams of 4 students. Such was the interest in the quiz - 30 students! - that we had to run our own heats and then draw names from a hat to get a final 8.
The Yorkshire regional heat had 30 teams from 19 different schools racking their brains over book-title charades and anagrams, literary partnerships, opening and closing lines and books on screen. It's fair to say that the range was enormous and even our Librarian, Mrs Senior, struggled to get many of the answers right - thank goodness for team work!
In the end, Team 1 came in at a respectable joint 11th place and Team 2 in 27th place. We are sad not to be representing Yorkshire in the final but it was a fun - if long - afternoon and great to see team work making the dream work, as they say.
Huge thanks to Lucy Kelland, Alex Johnson, Sophia Abdy, Nell Puddifoot, Makan Mostaedi, Tom Platts, Rafferty Scrimshaw and Skye Stokes. You did brilliantly to keep going to the end and well done for being such good sports.
