Silverdale's winner is through to the National Competition
Well done to the winner of our Y9 Poetry By Heart competition, Jonathan Pennington with his “ brillig” rendition of 'Jabberwocky' by Lewis Carroll. It was a pleasure to hear and to watch all the performances, recorded at home this time. The added dimension of performing to camera did not seem to faze our entrants and the judging panel of Mr Benn, Mr Newton, Mr Bushell and Mrs Senior thoroughly enjoyed all your contributions. It was felt that Jonathan's “dramatic presentation and innovative style made for a really enjoyable performance”.
The video of Jonathan's performance will now be judged by the Poetry By Heart team which will send personalised feedback and a certificate. The expert panel of poet judges and educators will then judge the best performances and invite those competitors to attend the national event at Shakespeare’s Globe on the SouthBank in London (date tbc), at which the national winners will be announced.
To quote Poetry By Heart, “a poem learnt often stays for life, growing with the person who learnt it and deepening its meaning over time” and we hope that this will be true for all our entrants.
