Having won Silverdale’s own Poetry By Heart competition, Y9's Marcus W has been named South Yorkshire's Winner in the Key Stage 3 Individual Recitation category of the national competition . Marcus impressed the judges – a panel of poets, poetry experts and educators - with his performances of The Tyger by William Blake and Mametz Wood by Owen Sheers. The judges praised his confident and engaging performance, as well as his ability to demonstrate empathy and insight into the poems.

Thanks goes to Marcus’ teachers Mrs Food and Miss Hughes, and to Mr Benn, Mr Bushell and Mrs Senior who judged the school’s Poetry By Heart competition. We enjoyed all of your performances and trust that the words of the poems will stay with you into old age, as many of us who learned similar things in our youth can attest!
