Why is school closing to most students?

The government has decided that schools should close to most students, to help slow the spread of Coronavirus. School will be open to selected students including those whose parents are key workers. The government has said that the scientific advice shows that it is safe for this small number of children to continue attending.

Why do I need to do school work at home?

Most students will now have to work from home. It is very important that you continue to do school work because you don’t want to be behind on your work when we return to school. Also, if you keep learning, it will help your brain grow and stop you getting bored! It’s really good for your mental health at a time when there may not be lots of other things to do. We are also very proud of how well informed our students are and want this to continue. So keep learning!

You can do the work set in any order, but you may find it helpful to follow your school timetable in order to give you a routine.

How do I get work?

• Work will be set on MILK for KS3 and KS4 students.
• KS5 students will receive work either by school email, Google classroom or MILK, depending what your teacher usually does.
• If departments are setting you work on other websites like Mathswatch, Quizlet, Educake, they will put a link on MILK so it’s all on one place.
• If you can't access these systems, then go to the Remote Learning section of this website.

How much marking/feedback will I get?

• All teaching staff care about you and will provide the best feedback they can.
• Teachers might ask you to email pieces of work for marking during the closure.
• If a member of staff is going to use a different system for marking/feedback (e.g. Google classroom), you will be told directly by them (through MILK).

If you need support at any point please contact your pastoral manager and they will talk to someone in school to support you.  You don’t need to feel alone.

What should I do if I am worried about my health?

• Look on the NHS direct website – there is lots of helpful advice about coronavirus as well as other medical conditions.
• Go online at www.111.nhs.uk  and complete an online screening form.
• Call your GP – your normal family Doctor.
• Call 999 if it is an emergency

What should I do if I am worried about my safety?

If you feel unsafe:

• You can speak to Mrs Anderson and Mrs Pawlak.  Their numbers are: 07401977802 or 07490417698.
• You can also email them if your worry is less urgent.

If you are worried about someone else:

• Encourage them to ring Mrs Anderson or Mrs Pawlak if they attend Silverdale.
• Email Mrs Anderson or Mrs Pawlak about your concern.
• If you have worries about your or someone else's safety outside of normal school time or outside of normal school term, speak to a trusted adult. If this is not possible you can call Childline 0800 1111.
• If you or someone you are with is in immediate danger call 999.

What if my family is in financial difficulty?

Free School Meals

If you are eligible for free school meals, the government says that schools will either provide a meal in school or your family will be given supermarket vouchers.  You will receive further information about this, but if you are concerned please contact your pastoral manager.

Free sanitary products

We have lots of free tampons and pads in school.  Please contact your Key Stage Pastoral Managers and we will get them to you.

Look after yourself, be kind to your friends and family, and work hard. Even if we are not in school, we are still all part of Silverdale. All the people who look after your education and welfare are still here and working hard for you – so keep in touch and check your emails.
